Perfect Chocolate Frosting (& S'mores Cake!)

Ok, we know I don't like chocolate.

If I did, I might've known how to melt chocolate.

It's evidently very intense.

The microwave was a fail.

The stove top was a fail.

So... you'd better look up how to melt chocolate before you begin.

Can you believe I didn't google it?

I just assumed I could do something as easy difficult as melt chocolate?

Either way, look it up.  There has to be a better way.

I modified this recipe: Our Best Bite's Chocolate Frosting.

Perfect Chocolate Frosting
Yuck. Don't do this.

2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup flour
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 cup milk
1 cup butter
2 Hershey's bars, melted

Step #1: Melt Hershey's bars.  Um, don't look at me, figure this one out.  Mine was slightly burnt and/or lumpy.  So, seriously, go look it up now.  The original recipe link doesn't say either (otherwise I would've done it!)

Step #2: Boil sugar, flour, cocoa and milk in a pan, whisking consistently until thickened. Allow to cool.

Step #3: Beat butter into sugar mixture.

Step #4: Add melted (ha!) chocolate and continue mixing until fluffy.

Step #5: Use it on your favorite cake recipe! And add marshmallow fluff to make it a S'mores cake!

  1. This looks good, Caity. You're too hard on yourself. Melting chocolate? For best results, use a double burner, but if you don't have one, do what my husband chooses to do. (put a big plate over a pot of boiling water -- the chocolate sits on the plate and will slowly melt without burning). Reduce the heat a bit once the water boils. You don't want your plate rattling on the rim of the pot.

  2. Melting chocolate isn't easy that is for sure. I still don't get it right at times. I do love your cake and the marshmallow fluff was a great addition!

  3. S'mores cake, what an amazing idea!! :) This post had me laughing out loud!

  4. i've burnt chocolate so many times and i was taught at school how to do it correctly. i'm far too impatient! this cake looks super

  5. I am still looking for the best chocolate frosting recipe :) I will try yours too :D

I'd love to hear from you! Comment away!
